Platinum party for pensioners

A special event for the pensioners of Quadring has celebrated its 70th anniversary.

The Senior Citizen Party took place recently at the village’s Church Hall.

It has been held every year since 1949 after being set-up by a group that organised events for the community following the end of World War Two.

Though the group itself has long since stopped running, the committee continued to organise the Senior Citizen Party.

Every year they invite every over-65 in the village for the hugely popular get-together which is funded by a raffle.

The 112 in attendance at this year’s party were treated to a special performance from singer Carol Ann and roast turkey dinner provided by Tulipland Butchers, of Donington.

Two special guests this year were Norman Featherstone (90) and Norman Crosby (88), both of whom were original committee members. Norman’s son Michael is now chairman of the organising committee.

“It was a special event for us and everybody said they really enjoyed it,” Michael said.

“While there is a continued demand for it, we will continue to put the party on,” he added.
