Plans for 24-hour gym submitted

An application has been submitted for a 24-hour gym in Spalding at the site of a current shop.

The address given for the application is Unit 2, the Carpetright store on Westlode Street.
The actual planning documents submitted by TDH Estates on behalf of Switha Ltd says the site is ‘formerly Carpetright’.
With the shop still open, it’s not clear if the application is referring to the full building or just part of it.
The Voice approached Carpetright for a comment, but had not received a response at the time of going to press.
As gyms are classed as retail as well, a change of use planning permission is not required.
However the application is for a certificate of lawful proposed use for ‘a gym with unrestricted trading hours, ie no restriction on 24-hour opening if desired by the gym operator’, documents submitted to South Holland District Council state.
“It is proposed that the use of unit two going forward would be as a gym rather than a retail unit,” it continues. ” t is concluded that operation of unit two as a gym, with no restriction on opening hours, would be lawful without the need for any new planning permission or amendment to a permission.”
