Holbeach Parish Council is to look to create a café in Carter’s Park.
At the authority’s most recent meeting councillors voted to look at the feasibility and cost of turn part of the current toilets in the area into a ‘kitchenette’.
The other half of the building would remain a toilet, but a unisex one fully equipped for disabled use.
Coun Isobel Hutchinson told the meeting: “Having looked at the toilet block it’s obviously in need of quite a lot of work.
“They are functional at this stage.
“Looking at it logically we’ve been asked by members of the public for a café in the park and obviously there is no disabled toilet facility within the park either.
“The idea would be to split the toilet block into two, so the gents side would become a fully functioned disabled toilet with changing facilities for adults as well as children and the other side would be turned into a kitchenette with a catering outlet.
“It’s right next to the picnic area so there would be a collection point to encourage people to use that area a little more.”
The council is now looking into the cost of the work in the hope it can be funded as part of the next financial year’s budget.
Council chair Stephen Johnson said: “It’s a fabulous idea and we should investigate it further.”
* The council has also called for people to come forward to help the Royal British Legion’s Remembrance Parade due to take place on November 14.
The authority is working with the local branch of the RBL so the event can take place.
A spokesman said: “For the parade to go ahead we will need volunteers to help steward.
“You would need to be available from 1pm to 5pm on November 14 and you will need to attend training prior to the event.
“If you would be interested please contact our clerk before our next meeting on the September 13.”
