Pinchbeck United boss Thorogood eyes up points from holiday derby fixtures

There’s no reason to think Pinchbeck United can’t pick up points over the festive period.

That’s the verdict of boss Lewis Thorogood ahead of two Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North Lincolnshire derbies against Skegness Town (away, Tuesday, 3pm) and at home to Holbeach United on January 3 (3pm).

The Knights go into their clashes in 16th place, just two points clear of the drop zone after being edged out 1-0 by Deeping Rangers last time out.

They are underdogs for the game at eighth-placed Skegness, but find themselves in the rare position as being slight favourites against rock-bottom Holbeach – although Thorogood was keen to play that tag down.

He said: “If we keep playing the way we have been in the past few games then I’m sure well pick up more results than not.

“We are capable of getting points from these two upcoming games, that’s for sure.

“I have to be honest and say that Skegness Town have a very strong side and will be very tough opponents, especially at their ground.

“That game is our primary focus and we’ll go there and look to get something.

“Obviously, the match against our neighbours Holbeach will be an interesting one.

“Yes, it’s fair to say they are having a very difficult season.

“It’ll be interesting to see what the new manager does there, you’d have to expect they’ll have new faces by the time we meet.

“It’s a derby game, so form does kind of go out of the window. Are we favourites? I’m not sure I want to go down that line of thinking.

“What I will say is that we’ll take nothing for granted against them.

“But I would hope to come away from these two games with points on the board, that’s for sure.”

Thorogood has a full squad to pick from ahead of the two derby clashes, with no new injury concerns and no suspensions.
