Peacocks return to Spalding

Peacocks have returned to Spalding, partly thanks to a 90-year-old resident.

The birds were once a regular sight in Ayscoughfee Gardens.

Now a Spalding family have picked up two from a rescue centre and are re-introducing them.

Anthony Grunwell and his mum Anne have been looking after the pair named after her parents Billy and Peggy letting them out after being quarentined last weekend.

“They’re beautiful animals,” said Anne who grew up alongside the birds as a child living at Rudding Park near Harrogate. “

Anthony, who runs the Spalding Water Taxi, said: “Those with children using the taxi have loved seeing Billy and Peggy.

“It’s great to have the birds back in Spalding.”
