Moulton Harrox kicked off the defence of their Lincs Junior Cup crown with a 4-1 win over Sutton Bridge United on Saturday – but that doesn’t tell the full story.
ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division rivals Bridge pushed Harrox all the way at Broad Lane, with Samuel Lilley’s strike securing a 1-1 draw at the end of 90 minutes.
However, Moulton flexed their muscles in the additional period to run out handsome winners, with their goals coming from Marcus Parry, Joe Townsend (2) and sub Martin Sandall.
There was also time as Crowland Town hosted Louth Town at Snowden Field, with the PDFL Division One side eventually going down 3-2.
Liam Rigg and Matthew Rostron were the Crowland scorers in the cup cracker.
Another South Holland side to exit a county competition were Tydd, who went down 3-1 at Whittlesey Athletic in the Cambs Cliff Bullen Cup.
Elsewhere, Holbeach United Reserves enjoyed a fine 2-1 victory over in-form Peterborough Sports Development in the PDFL Premier Division.
Goals from Cal Davies and Louis Steadman got the job done for Phil Barnes’ side, who stay third in the table but are now level on points with second-placed Netherton United.
It was also a good day for Long Sutton Athletic, who picked up a 2-0 victory at struggling Polonia.
A double from former player/boss Matt Cawthorn, who has rejoined the club from FC Parson Drove, were enough for the Magpies.
In Division One, goals from Ben Allen as Ashley Wilson earned Spalding Town a 2-1 victory at Wittering Harries. It’s now seven wins from ten league games for fifth-placed Town.
Meanwhile, Division Two side Whaplode Drove were thumped 8-1 at home by Premiair in the Junior Cup.
In Division Three, Long Sutton Athletic Reserves continued their winning ways with a 3-1 home success over FC Peterborough Reserves at London Road.
In the Minor Cup, both Holbeach United Sports and Tydd Reserves bowed out. Sports drew 1-1 at Cardea Reserves and lost 3-2 on penalties, while Tydd went down 1-0 at home to Orton Rangers.
