PDFL round-up: Cartwright on-target as Moulton Harrox book League Cup semi-final spot

Moulton Harrox moved into the semi-finals of the ChromaSport PDFL League Cup on Friday night with a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Whittlesey Athletic Reserves.

Goals from new signing Stacy Cartwright and master marksman Josh Ford sealed the success for Bobby Patterson and Tim Cole’s charges.

They are joined in the last four by Stamford Belvedere, Warboys Town and Deeping Rangers Reserves.

In the PDFL Premier Division, it was a tough day for South Holland sides.

Rock-bottom Long Sutton Athletic were hammered 6-0 at home by Uppingham Town as they sealed the title in style.

Josh Sennett (2), Jordan Neil (2), Josh Porter and Martin Turiccki got the goals for them, while Sutton end their season as the league’s basement side.

Also defeated were Crowland Town, who went down 3-0 to third-placed Oundle Town at Snowden Field.
Crowland have now completed their fixtures and will finish no lower than tenth place.

In Division One, Tydd came from 1-0 down to beat Crowland Reserves in a derby clash. Mantas Paskevicius (21) gave the visitors a half-time advantage, but Tydd’s Sam Cooper (54) and Timmy Magnus (82) netted to seal a home win.

The victory sees Tydd flying high in fourth place, just a point off second spot with two games in hand.

Also winners were Moulton Harrox Reserves, who saw off Wisbech Reserves 3-1 at Broad Lane with John Ball (2) and Dec Earth on target.

Harrox’s second string have two games left in their campaign, both derbies against Crowland Reserves and Tydd.

Down in Division Two, Holbeach Sports enjoyed a 1-0 win over Stilton Reserves while Long Sutton Reserves slumped 5-0 at Polonia.

Also suffered a hefty defeat were Holbeach Bank in Division Five B.

They went down 6-0 at Ramsey Town Reserves and sit third in the standings.
