Patterson praises ‘proper’ Moulton performance as Declan’s double sends his side into final with Wyberton

Grantham Town Academy 0 Moulton Harrox 2

A Declan Earth double fired Moulton Harrox into the Lincs Junior Cup final on Saturday as they defeated hosts Grantham Town Academy 2-0.

Top scorer Earth netted a goal in each half as Moulton put their Lincolnshire League hosts to the sword in typical fashion – securing a ninth successive win and clean sheet in the process.

It took just 15 minutes for five-times winners Harrox to hit the front, with Earth’s low free-kick somehow squirming through the keeper and into the net.

The game was as good as over on the hour when that man Earth benefitted from a poor defensive clearance and fired home a typically fine finish.

Moulton will now take on Wyberton in the final, with the date and venue still to be confirmed.

Delighted co-boss Bobby Patterson said: “It was a typical Moulton performance, which was what we asked for.

“We’ve rebuilt the side a little since last season, but I feel we’re now at the level we wanted to be.

“We’ve got a special affinity with this competition and it’s the hardest county cup to win at this level.

“Everybody here wants to win it and we were superb all over the pitch.

“Declan Earth is just a match-winner, it’s that simple. He’s top drawer.

“Ant Murphy and the defence were great too, while the likes of Dalius Kisla and Joe Townsend ran all day in midfield.

“We can’t wait for the final now, it’ll be a good game against a Wyberton side that are very much like us.”

Harrox: Murphy, Maguire, Coddington, Johnson, Gardner, Chappell, Woodward (B Smith), Kisla (Machin), Earth, Townsend, Ford. Subs not used: Bradbury, Cash, J Smith.
