Patterson pleased with ‘dominant’ show as Moulton Harrox climb up to third

Moulton Harrox 3 Stamford Lions 0

Bobby Patterson praised his Moulton Harrox side after witnessing their most imperious performance of the season so far on Saturday.

Goals from Joe Townsend (2) and Jack Smith handed Harrox a 3-0 ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division victory over struggling Stamford Lions at Broad Lane.

But it was the dominant way in which Moulton performed that pleased co-boss Patterson, who saw his side climb up to third in the table.

“We played really well on Saturday,” said the veteran defender. “Fair play to Lions, they came to frustrate us and stuck to their task.

“But it was the first time I’ve seen us dominate a game for 90 minutes this season.

“After what was, to be totally honest, a very indifferent start to the season, we’ve now won five games in a row and finally look the part.

“I did say a while back that, after the mini-break we had, we’d still be right up there if we put a run of wins together.

“Well, we’re third now and will go second if we can win at Uppingham on Saturday.

“We’ve got a lot of lads that have played higher, but I’ve seen over the years that there’s no guarantee you can win the league with them.

“I do feel it’s testament to (co-boss) Tim Cole and I that we’ve got them to come and play at this level, but now we’re seeing what they can do.

“There are no easy games this year. Lions are bottom, but there’s no way I can see them finishing there. Equally, nobody is pulling away, so it’s all to play for.”

Next up for Moulton is the above-mentioned game at second-placed Uppingham Town on Saturday (2pm).

Moulton: Murphy, McGuire, Gardner, Coddington, Clay, Kisla, Chappell, Clarke, Earth, Townsend, Smith. Subs used: Patterson, Law.
