Parking restrictions on a major Holbeach road are being discussed again after objections to a regulation.
The official Traffic Regulation Order would see the extension of a no-parking area along Park Road.
Street parking in the area of the WI Hall and the day care centre obstructs access to both premises.
It was proposed to extend the 24-hour parking restriction further south to protect the affected accesses and a private road.
Objections have been raised on the impact on residents and their visitors from the loss of on street parking should the restrictions be extended as outlined.
On street parking in the vicinity is already limited says a report to go before members of the county council’s planning and regulation committee on Monday (3).
“It is alleged that employees at the day centre park on street and therefore residents are unable to park close to their properties. Their vehicles are displaced elsewhere and this has implications for vehicle security,” the report to members says.
It has been suggested that a residents’ parking permit system be introduced to give residents priority to park.
“The concerns raised are noted. However, in order to maintain access into the affected premises at all times the restrictions as proposed will be required.
“A length of unrestricted parking will remain in the vicinity and additional sections lie a short distance to the north. Permit parking schemes are applied as zones covering large areas around city and town centres which are subject to parking by commuters or shoppers, so this will not be suitable for this location,” the report adds.
Members will also be told that site visits confirm vehicles are parked close to the accesses needed and the problem results in both access and visibility problems.
Consultees included Lincolnshire police, South Holland District Council, Holbeach Parish Council, East Midland Ambulance Trust and Stagecoach East Midlands.
Public consultation on the proposals were held in March and those residents potentially affected were in receipt of the consultation documents.
The local county council member, Thomas Sneath, supports the proposal, says the report.
The committee is asked to note the report and recommend to the Executive Councillor for Highways and Transport as to whether the order should be approved, modified or withdrawn.
