Race night to light up town

There was plenty of horsing around at The Crown Hotel in Holbeach recently as a fundraiser for the town’s Christmas lights took place.

Bateman’s Brewery sponsored the Race Night with Stuart Bateman running a quiz and supplying raffle tickets for the Holbeach Christmas Lighting committee.

The group works all year to bring Christmas cheer to the town ably assisted by volunteers and local businesses supplying the labour and equipment to install the lights.

A fantastic £569 was made on the night.

Lawrie Tingley & Chris Knowles from the committee dressed up as jockeys to collect the bets and Ben Thorpe was emcee.

Helen Scott said: “Thank you to everyone who came along and supported us so enthusiastically.

“Holbeach Christmas Lighting is run totally by volunteers.

“We have several costs that need to be met each year – such as insurance and our electricity account where we must pay a monthly charge just to run the lights over the Christmas period.

“We are grateful for any donation large or small.”

Anyone who would like to donate can do so at The Crown Hotel, West End, Holbeach or contact Helen Scott via the Holbeach Christmas Lights Facebook page.
