Parade ready to march again

This year’s Spalding’s Remembrance Sunday Parade will be a special one to mark the 100th anniversary of the Royal British Legion.

The final details have been revealed for this year’s event which takes place on Sunday, November 14.

A parade marshalled by trained volunteers will take place from the Market Place to Ayscoughfee Gardens in town where there will be a service of remembrance at the Cenotaph.

After the service the parade will return to the Market Place.

To accommodate the parade of several hundred people forming up in the Market Place, parking will be restricted overnight on Saturday November 13 into Sunday morning to keep the area clear.

The Market Place itself will be closed to traffic on Sunday, November 14 until approximately 1pm when all parade members and helpers should be safely away.

From 10.15am on Sunday, November 14 the roads closed will be as follows: London Road towards High Bridge at its junction with Vine Street; High Street at the junction with Holland Road; Church Street will be closed at its junction with Love Lane and Halmergate Cowbit Road at its junction with Church Gate and Love Lane.

As soon as the parade has all moved into Ayscoughfee Gardens, the roads will be opened and traffic can pass as normal.

When the parade re-forms to return to the Market Place by the same route the road closures will be applied again.

Volunteers from the Rotary Club of South Holland and members of the public will be on hand to ensure the parade goes smoothly.

One of the organisers, Steven Colby, said: “Each closure is for public safety and will last only for the few minutes that the parade is using the road.

“We ask motorists to act with restraint and understanding on this occasion. Stewards at each road closure point will be able to advise them of alternate routes around the town if necessary.”
