A man whose family home was severely damaged when an upstairs bedroom was struck by an airborne car five months ago is close to moving back in.
Paul Wilkinson will still be out of his Hop Pole home at Christmas, but hopes that all repairs will be complete and he can return to the property early in the new year.
Mr Wilkinson – who lives alone at the semi-detached house in Carrington Drive – has been staying with his partner Vicky Muxlow in neighbouring Deeping St Nicholas since the accident on July 23.
Repair work on the house, which was covered by his insurance policy, began towards the end of November.
Mr Wilkinson said: “The outside has been repaired and there’s just some work inside to do now.
“I’m quite happy with the way it’s gone – these things take time to sort.
“Speaking to other people who have had things happen and have had to make claims, I knew it wouldn’t be a quick process but I’m happy with how the insurance has dealt with it.”
He added: “I didn’t really think how long I might be out of my house at the time – it’s not something that happens every day!”
The damage to Mr Wilkinson’s family home of 50 years occurred when a Vauxhall Corsa left the 50mph main road through the village, cleared a hedge and collided with the first floor.
Amazingly, the only injuries the 26-year-old Market Deeping driver suffered were deep grazes from the seatbelt, and cuts and bruises to his legs caused by bricks coming through the windscreen.
Mr Wilkinson said: “I still don’t know who it was.
“Like I said at the time, I was just happy that no one was hurt.”
Lincolnshire Police have yet to decide whether the driver will face any action.
