Holbeach 999 caller: ‘Help…my partner just yelled at the cat!’

Police were compelled to visit a home on Monday night after a woman dialled 999 because her partner had shouted at their cat.

The bizarre call was made from an address in Holbeach, and officers were duty-bound to attend because the call was abandoned. Such calls are always treated as a crime in progress.

At the home, officers found an apologetic woman who had been drinking. She had become upset when her partner shouted at their cat during an argument.

Satisfied that there was no risk of domestic abuse, police left after giving the woman an informal warning.

Spalding’s community policing inspector Jim Tyner said: “We had to treat this call seriously and there was no way of knowing the trivial nature of the call until officers visited.
“The caller has been left in no doubt that if there were a recurrence she would be dealt with for misuse of the 999 system.”
