The continuing weed issues and a forecast of no wind meant only three boats started the last of the Commodore Points on Sunday at Welland Yacht Club.
Alistair Mitchell in his Laser got away first with Geoff Tibbs in his Solo slightly behind and Rob Bowen bringing up the rear in a Laser Radial.
As the boats tacked their way up the river Mitchell started to pull clear and Bowen managed to overtake Tibbs.
On the long downwind leg Mitchell extended his lead and crossed the line to take first place.
Bowen and Tibbs were battling hard for second place but in the end Tibbs took the lead and finished seconds ahead to take second place.
Tibbs didn’t compete in the second race leaving only two starters but this time Mitchell got a poor start leaving Bowen to pull out a good lead.
As the race progressed Mitchell closed the gap and was able to overtake Bowen.
Once ahead he extended his lead and crossed the line to take his second win.
Overall this meant Mitchell took the Commodore Points Trophy with Bowen taking a well deserved with Andy Prior third.
