One Stop a step closer to opening

A bid to open a new shop on Albert Street in Spalding has taken a step forward despite objections from nearby residents.

A One Stop Shop is looking to open in the former Memory Lane furniture store.
And last week South Holland District Council’s Licensing Panel passed its application to sell alcohol.
It did though say that One Stop must apply for change of use planning permission.
Concerns raised by local residents included one writing to object stating: “I am concerned the sale of alcohol will increase the current crime and disorder issues.
“Evidence of drinking and drug abuse is already evident in the poorly lit public footpath directly behind the premises which is used by school children.”
There were also concerns raised about the increase in traffic on the roads and littering that residents blamed on school children.
Documents submitted with the application state the shop is looking to be open from 6am to 11pm each day.
It was passed with a host of conditions as agreed with Lincolnshire Police including the use of CCTV.
The panel as chaired by Coun Angela Harrison said in its judgement: “The panel was encouraged to hear that the applicant will consider the extent of footfall and whether there is a local demand for the full extent of the hours applied for.
“A number of the concerns were addressed by the applicant who confirmed that there would be sufficient bins and emptying of bins to seek to minimise the prospect of any litter.
“The panel did note that One Stop submit that the local residents are likely to be their customers and that they will seek to engage constructively with the community as part of the ethos.”
