Nurse fighting COVID-19 left upset after her bike is stolen

A nurse who’s helping on the frontline battling the COVID-19 outbreak has been left upset after her bike was stolen from her Spalding home

On a rare day off from working for the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS, Lucy Brown left her Giants women’s bike outside her home on the Holland Park estate on Saturday (April 18) when it was taken.

It’s left the mum of two upset she can’t take part in the family bike rides that have been a feature of her days off.

And it’s upset her eldest son Finley (7) so much he struggled to sleep the following night.

Finley though has also offered to pay for a new bike out of his own pocket money.

Lucy, who has worked for a nurse for 14 years, said: “We came back from the ride Saturday afternoon and left the bike on the front porch and intended to come back and put it in the garage.

“When we went out later it had gone.

“We didn’t hear or see anything.

“You see the rainbows in people’s windows celebrating the NHS and there’s the 8pm Thursday claps with the community rallying round and then something like this happens.

“You jut don’t expect it, particularly as we live in a nice area.”

Lucy says the bike rides she Finley, Harrison (3) and husband Phil take are highlights of the week amid the busy working schedule.

“Riding my bike with my family was one of the only things I can do on my days off,” she said.

“We’ve been talking about looking at going on holidays when we can that involve biking like Centre Parcs, but now I don’t even have a bike.

“It’s also upsetting to think that someone has been on our property to take the bike.

“My oldest son couldn’t sleep that night and was asking me if it was a ‘proper thief wearing black and white stripes’ as that’s what he thing.

“He even offered to give me his pocket money to pay for a bike.

“I had been hoping that maybe the person who had taken it woul have a conciouns and I’d go back round the front and they’ve brought it back, but they haven’t yet,

“Biking with my family was something I loved and I just can’t do that now.”

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police, said: “We are investigating the theft of a grey bike which had turquoise writing on it. We believe this was taken sometime on the afternoon from the street.

“It had black tyres, a black seat and black handlebars.”
