New roundabout set for night time closures as surface sub-standard

A recently built roundabout is set for two weeks of closures after its surfacing was found to be sub-standard

The Spalding Road junction with Enterprise Way in Pinchbeck, which is meant to also be the north end of the Spalding Western Relief Road, was only opened last year.

But now Lincolnshire County Council say the top layer of road surfacing is not up to standard.

It will be closed between 8pm and 6am for two week from Monday June 17 for resurfacing.

Karen Cassar, Assistant Director – Highways, said: “Since opening the new roundabout last year, our standard inspection process has flagged up the that the top layer of road surfacing doesn’t meet the stringent requirements and high standard we laid out in our design.

“Because issues like this could lead to the carriageway not lasting as long as it should, the project contractor will be removing and re-laying the surfacing at their own cost as part of our contract with them.

“Although these works will cause some disruption, carrying them out now will save us money and time in the future.

“In the meantime, I want to thank everyone in advance for bearing with us.”
