New roof plans for town library

Work is being planned to replace the roof of Long Sutton’s library.
The building, which also houses the town’s Register Office, has two main roof sections which are described as ‘very shallow.’
A planning application submitted to Lincolnshire County Council says the library will have to be closed while the work is carried out.
It’s proposed to temporarily house library services in a portable cabin to be put on the car park.
The Register Office will remain open throughout the works.
The building is within a conservation area and the application, from Kier, says the proposed low-pitched roof is pressed steel and interlocking.
“The existing flat roof at the rear of the property is also to be over-roofed to match the main.
“Ponding after rain showers is becoming frequent and the felt cover is deteriorating,” says the application, which will be decided by council officers.
There will be some tree pruning to make space for the temporary cabin. It will also have ramps to ensure it is accessible and the door will be automated.
