Newly-elected district councillor Jack McLean has wasted no time in setting about trying to make Spalding a tidier place.
He has created a group called Spotless Spalding with the aim of helping clean up the area and enjoying some social time with others who share the same desire.
The group is open to all ages, and its first meet will be at the flowerbeds beside High Bridge on Saturday, June 27, at 6pm. Afterwards the group will go for a cuppa.
Coun McLean (20), who became the youngest-ever South Holland district councillor when he won a seat for St John’s ward last month, says he first developed the idea after “realising the scale of people’s concerns” during his political campaign.
He has recruited people to start up the group, and created a website and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/spotlessspalding).
Armed with litter-pickers, Coun McLean hopes to attract people who have never done it before.
He said: “I am hoping that for some this provides a nice evening out, and a chance to meet new and like-minded people.
“At the same time, it can be a great experience for kids. They not only learn some important lessons, but they find it active and fun.”
