New dementia café in Spalding stirs memories

A new dementia café run by volunteers has opened at a Spalding nursing home.

Tanglewood Cedar Falls in Little London. has allowed use of its premises for Memory Lane.
Residents and families get to enjoy a cuppa and cake and have a chat.

Tony Westland, of Whaplode, whose mother Lilian is in the nursing home, said: “It was the idea of the matron, Nicky, who does a fantastic job.
“What we are trying to do is bring the outside world into the world of dementia, something that is not going to go away as this illness is affecting more people every year.
“What we would like to do is get more people to our Memory Lane café to mix with residents and talk to the staff.”

The next event is on Wednesday, April 24 at 2pm and it is hoped that South Holland and the Deepings MP John Hayes will pay a visit on Friday, May 20.
