Allotment holders have changed premises to make way for a development in Crowland.
Up to 45 homes are planned for the site on James Road with the project well under way.
The scheme has been called the Abbey Farm Development and the land is owned by the parish council.
Developers Seagate Homes are working with the council to develop nearly 11 acres of land.
The allotments have been relocated to another site on James Road road and tenants provided with free manure for their plots.
The new site also has a toilet and kitchen among the new facilities.
“Like all local councils, the council is under increasing pressure to deliver historical, or better, levels of service to the parish, within squeezed incomes. At the same time, facilities are aging and need capital investment in the medium term,” said a council statement.
Permission was granted by the Secretary of State to relocate the allotments and to develop the former site.
Seagate Homes will create a mixed development of up to 45 homes, if permission is granted, and the parish council will retain some bungalows for the over-55s to recoup rental income.
There will also be affordable homes and some for the open market.
It is hoped that work will start on the development next year, once permission has been secured.
As part of the scheme, Seagate Homes will also refurbish the existing under-11s playground on the Snowden Field.
The council has an ambitious £300,000 project to replace and enhance open space and children’s playground.
“In appreciating that not all ratepayers will be supportive of the proposals the council has undertaken… to avoid the burden falling directly on council funds, and will continue to do so for the balance,” says the statement.
“The full programme is to replace or enhance the toddlers area and the adventure playground, to provide a skatepark suitable for skateboards, scooters and bikes; the installation of an all weather Multi User Games Area as well as outdoor keep fit equipment.”
