A host of Nene Valley Harriers’ top cross country runners were in action at the Inter-counties Championship at Cofton Park on Saturday as the season drew to a close.
The Birmingham meet is the traditional season finale – and Nene Valley’s finest were on solid form.
The Lincolnshire under-20 men’s team finished sixth out of the 24 competing counties, thanks largely to a trio of young Harriers.
James McCrae led the county home in 20th place, with Alex Hampson not far behind in 29th. The third scorer was Daniel Skinner, from the Lincoln Wellington club, in 55th position while Bradley Spurdens closed the scoring team in 64th.
The highest individual position of the day for a Nene Valley runner went to Flo Brill, who managed 15th position for Cambridgeshire in the under-13 girls’ race.
Behind her, Ella Robinson came home in 160th position for Cambridgeshire, while Sam Oakley was 235th in the boys’ under-13 race.
Elsewhere, Amber Park squeezed into the top 100 of the under-15 girls’ race as she finished 91st for Cambridgeshire.
Team-mates Josie Fortune and Ellie Piccaver finished 220th and 223rd respectively.
The Ellison siblings were both picked to run for Lincolnshire – and Ethan placed 219th in the under-15 boys’ race. His older sister Megan finished as 124th under-17 girl.
Although seniors Cat Foley-Wray and Grace Mullins were selected for Lincs, they were unable to race – leaving Ruth Jones to carry the Nene Valley mantle in 202nd.
