Work on creating a memorial garden for Spalding man Warren Free is under way.
Neighbour Mick Clarkson has vowed to transform a small parcel of land near Mr Free’s home in Coronation Close into a lasting memory to him.
It comes as the first anniversary of Mr Free’s death approaches. Last month six teenagers were cleared of murdering him.
Mr Clarkson (54) is a community champion who transformed a rough piece of council land by his home in Royce Road, now known as Pop’s Patch, and masterminded a huge volunteer effort to create a sensory garden for special needs pupils at The Garth School.
He said: “It will be nice to do something for Warren.
“I’m hoping to have a wall-mounted water feature there. I don’t want it to be a sad place.”
A fundraising page with a target of £250 is halfway there. Donations can be made at https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/mick-clarkson
Messages of support have been made on Facebook page “Warren Frees memorial garden fund raising page”.
Warren’s dad Bob said: “We are touched that Mick Clarkson has set up a memorial garden for Warren and that there is going to be a plaque in his memory there, at the top of Royce Road, close to where he lived.
“The family would like to thank the people of Spalding for their kind words, comments and support they have given throughout this whole ordeal.”
