A Crowland student is celebrating after signing his first publishing deal with Zelos Deep Records, and taking his music on tour through the UK and Germany.

Mark Crawford initially enrolled on New College Stamford’s level two diploma in music, but after completing his level three music tech qualification, he successfully achieved a place on the college’s sought-after Foundation Degree for Music Practitioners.

The degree course gave Mark access to industry quality facilities as well as real-life experience with the college’s very own radio station and record label – Infinity Records.

Mark said: “Alongside my own music, I’ve been able to work with the college’s Infinity Records project which has given me the opportunity to explore different aspects of the music industry, the technical, practical and business aspects, which all gave me the confidence to take my music further.”

Mark decided rather than follow the trend, he wanted to create his own music, so he launched himself into the market as Macious, and began to incorporate live acoustic instruments, sound design and the recording techniques that he had developed while studying, to create abstract sounds and independent sounding electronic music.

The change of direction paid off, he was signed, his debut EP Stop Feeling was launched, and he embarked on a tour, playing to huge crowds at gigs and festivals.

Mark now hopes to continue his live performances in the coming year, and work with other producers to build his reputation as an artist and expand his portfolio.
