Spalding dinner lady Liz Edwards and her youngest daughter Katie were attacked and killed as they slept in bed, a jury has been told.
A 15-year-old boy has admitted to murdering them both. A 15-year-old girl is on trial for two counts of murder, both of which she denies.
Nottingham Crown Court was told today (Monday) that when the boy and girl were arrested some time after the killings, they had been watching episodes of Twilight together.
The court heard that the boy and girl – both 14 at the time of the incident at Dawson Avenue in April this year – had planned the killings on April 11.
Four days later, police broke into the property and found the bodies of Liz (49) and Katie (13) in their respective upstairs bedrooms.
The jury was told by Peter Joyce QC, for the prosecution, that post mortems revealed that Liz suffered eight stab wounds – two to her neck, one to her right shoulder and five to her hands.
Katie’s body was found with two stab wounds to her neck. The pathologist concluded that she died from haemorrhage and smothering.
The prosecution says that the defendant is as responsible as the boy for the “cold, calculated and callous” killings of Mrs Edwards and Katie.
The trial, which is expected to last for eight days, continues.
