Moulton Harrox took a major step towards lifting the GCE Hire Fleet Peterborough League title on Tuesday.
A 4-1 win at Leverington Sports pulled them level on points and goal difference with reigning champions Uppingham Town, who remain top on goals scored. Moulton, however, still have two games in hand.
It came after Saturday’s key win at title rivals Warboys Town, where Nathan Smith and Declan Earth struck in a 2-1 win.
Six teams remain in the race for the top spot but 2019 champions Moulton now hold the initiative.
Crowland Town lead the chasing pack following an 11-goal thriller at Tydd, where they emerged 6-5 victors. They are four points adrift of the top two but have played one game more than Moulton.
Tydd’s narrow defeat was their second in a row after falling by a single goal at home to bottom club Netherton United on Saturday.
It means they remain in the danger zone with two games to go.
Two late goals earned Holbeach United Reserves a 2-0 win at Oakham United. Jordan Keeble came off the bench to break the deadlock after 72 minutes before Warren Hebblethwaite made the points safe five minutes from the end.
Division Two leaders Whaplode Drove Rovers completed their season with a 2-0 win at Oakham United Reserves, courtesy of goals from Will Knight and Kane Gilbert. However, three teams can still overhaul them to deny them the silverware.
