Two goals in the final ten minutes – including a last-gasp Joe Townsend winner – helped Moulton Harrox come from behind to beat ten-man Riverside 5-4 in a real ChromaSport Peterborough Premier Division thriller on Saturday.
Ollie Maltby’s maiden Moulton goal and two Billy King strikes (one penalty, one penalty re-bound) had Moulton 3-1 up at half time at Broad Lane.
They looked set for a comfortable ninth win from as many league matches, with Riverside having Thomas Lancaster sent off. Amazingly, the visitors turned the tables to go 4-3 ahead, but Ian Bradbury and Townsend struck late on to keep Dave Panton’s side perfect.
The result also sends Harrox back to the top of the table, with previous leaders Peterborough Sports Reserves – who beat Riverside 3-2 last time out – not in action.
Panton said: “The last two weeks have been hard, as we have had players out for one reason or another.
“I know some people are saying this and that about our recent form. I personally think we are playing superbly well.
“You can’t play fantastic football every week, but the positives are that we are scoring goals and continue to look dangerous in attack.
“Yes, we have a few issues which myself and the players are aware of and will sort out this week at training. But the commitment, character and determination from the players – especially when we went 4-3 behind – simply showed how good a team we are.
“I thought Riverside played to their strengths, never rolled over and gave up and could have easily got something from both us this week and Sports last week. I’m sure results will start to come for them very soon.”
