Spalding speedster Kirt Powell got his Thundersport GB Championship under way at Brands Hatch over the weekend.
After a solid day of testing on Friday, the Powell Racing ace qualified 30th out of 37 riders on Saturday morning – which represented a very solid seventh in his class.
A disastrous start in race one saw Powell stuck in neutral and he dropped to the back of the field, before he clawed back five places to finish 25th overall and eighth in his class.
Race two on Sunday morning saw the temperature drop and spitting rain, but Powell decided to go out on a scrub set of tyres.
However, he couldn’t get them to grip until the fourth lap and he was only able to manage 27th overall and tenth in his class.
With a new rear tyre for race three, Powell was flying and looking like securing his best finish of the weekend before his bike cut out, forcing him to retire.
Powell thanks his sponsors S&A Electrical, Manic Motorcycles, Bill Williams Building Services, Spalding Self Store and New View Windows and Conservatories.
