Four members from Tydd St Giles Golf club successfully completed the MacMillan Cancer Support ‘Longest Day’ challenge – with just minutes to spare.

Mark Whittaker, Malcolm Stead, Ian Edrupt and Neil John scored a total of 340 points over the four rounds, which were played at Tydd St Giles, Sutton Bridge GC, Feltwell GC and The Suffolk Golf and Country Club on the same day.

That quartet, dubbed the border hoppers, expect to have raised in excess of £3,000 for MacMillan Cancer Support thanks to their efforts – which has smashed their initial target of just £1,000.

Team captain Whittaker said: “We’d like to thank helpers Nikki Stead, Gail Edrupt, Andy Jackson, Paul Amos and Andy Morris, without whom the feat could not have been achieved.

“Special thanks are also extended to the three other clubs the Border Hoppers visited that day, Sutton Bridge, Feltwell and Suffolk – all of whom extended the courtesy of the course to the Hoppers and helped to raise some money.

“Special thanks must go to the members and officials at Feltwell who allowed the boys to go out earlier than planned and play through an open competition.”
