Memorabilia appeal for victory celebration

People are being asked to come forward with 1940s memorabilia they would be willing to lend to an evening of nostalgia.

The Rotary Club of South Holland is planning a 1940s swing dance on Saturday, June 6, at Spalding’s South Holland Centre, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of VE Day.

The event will include live music with sessions from a swing band Miller Magic and Sarah-Jane, as well as a bangers and mash supper.

Guests will be encouraged to dress up in period costume and it is hoped the hall will be decorated according to the theme too.

Spokesman for the group Debbie Hough said: “We would like to put out a request through The Voice for any memorabilia that anyone would be willing to loan us for the night.

“In particular we are trying to source a large supply of old metal plates or mess tins to serve the supper on, but we would also like sand bags, bunting and an air raid siren if anyone has one that they could lend us for the night.”
