Marvel’s best film in years is coming to Spalding

WHAT A MARVEL: Don’t miss Captain America: The Winter Soldier at the South Holland Centre this week.

The best action movie of 2014 so far rolls into town this week – and Captain America: The Winter Soldier is one you’ll not want to miss at the South Holland Centre.

Chris Evans returns as Marvel hero Captain America in what is easily the franchise’s best offering since 2012’s juggernaut Avengers Assemble.

If you’re a fan of these comic creations – notable stable-mates include the two Thor films, Iron Man 1-3 and, of course, Captain America: The First Avenger – be prepared for the universe that you know and love to be turned upside-down.

Co-directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, Cap’s latest outing sees him caught up in a game-changing power struggle at S.H.I.E.L.D.

Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) and Natasha Romanov/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) return, while Robert Redford’s scheming Alexander Pierce and Cap’s new sidekick Falcon (Anthony Mackie) make their Marvel debuts.

But it’s Sebastian Stan’s genuinely terrifying ‘Winter Soldier’ that steals the show. He is second only to Tom Hiddlestone’s devious Loki (Thor, Avengers Assemble) in terms of all-time Marvel villains – and is more than a match for the suped-up Captain America when it comes to combat.

And, in true Marvel style, there’s more to the mysterious assassin than initially meets the eye.

All in all, Captain America’s latest adventure leads fans superbly into 2015’s Avengers: Age Of Ulton.

Our reviewer Andrew Clucas rated The Winter Soldier at 4/5 in the first edition of The Spalding and South Holland Voice last month, which is the highest score he has dished out so far.

He saw the blockbuster in 3D – and would recommend that you give it a try for the best possible experience.

Showing in 2D on Thursday May 15 (6.30pm) and Saturday May 17 (2pm). Also showing in 3D on Saturday May 17 (8pm).
