Marathon is fresh challenge for postman Ade

A Spalding postman who has raised more than £11,500 in memory of a colleague who died from cancer is fundraising again.

Nine years ago Ade Mills set up cancer foundation Ride for Robbie in memory of Robbie Coats.
Since then he has participated and organised biannual events to raise money for the cancer wards and department at Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital.

Up until now these events have been mostly cycling-based but now Ade is taking on a new challenge.
He said: “After turning 50 last year I wanted to take on a fresh challenge and started running again after a ten-year break.

“I have always wanted to run a marathon but despite running many halfs I have never run a full one.”

Ade planned to compete in the London Marathon but didn’t get through the ballot stage, so instead he is running the Boston UK marathon on April 15.

He added: “Training has gone well despite spells of bad weather and the best thing I did was to join local running club Halmer Harriers in January.

“Everyone at the club has been so incredibly welcoming and I have made so many amazing friends in such a short space of time. They are incredibly supportive and give fantastic encouragement and advice to everyone who joins.

“The total amount raised in the past nine years is just over £11,500 and I would love to improve on that this year.

“The foundation was named after a great man but all the events are in the memory and thoughts of other Spalding Royal mail employees that have and are still fighting their battles with this awful disease. “
