A man carrying a knife punched a woman in the face in a late night Spalding takeaway in an unprovoked attack, a court has heard.
Tiberiu-Lucian Grozav 34, of Lancelot Way, Spalding admitted assault by beating and possession of a lock knife in a public place, when he appeared before District Judge Peter Veits sitting at Boston Magistrates Court.
Prosecuting, Lou Johnson said that at 12.45am on April 1, Grozav went into the Hot ‘n Spicy takeaway restaurant where he punched Alison Beekan in the face in an unprovoked attack.
She said that police arrived and he was arrested and was found to have a lock knife in his pocket.
She said he was ‘quite resistant’ and had to be forcibly restrained.
In interview, Grozav said he did not recall the incident at all and that he had had ‘far too much to drink’. Grozav, who was not represented, told the judge he could only remember waking up at the police station and also said he used the knife for fishing.
After hearing that he admitted to a ‘propensity to drink excessively at weekends’, the judge ordered him to observe 10 rehabilitation days and to wear an electronic tag to monitor his alcohol consumption for 90 days.
He was also ordered to pay £200 compensation to his victim and a total of £180 in court costs and charges.
