Mail Cart win inaugural Lincolnshire EBF Centenary Pairs at Skegness

The first play-offs of the new Lincolnshire EBF Centenary Pairs team competition were held at Skegness on Saturday and Royal Mail A emerged victorious.

After beating Castle BC and Royal Mail Cart B team earlier in the season, the A team faced Alford in the semi-final. The other last-four tie saw Sleaford Town A face off against Brumby Hall A.

The competition is played over three rinks of two-bowl pairs, each playing 21 ends with a winner required on each rink and a point collected.

The Mail Cart team of Ashley Caress, John Allen, Tracy Philpott, Jordan Philpott, Paul Caress and Chris Mycock proved too strong for Alford, winning on all rinks, with their 3-0 victory being repeated in the other semi-final by Brumby Hall.

The final was a much closer affair but Mail Cart were victorious on two rinks to claim the title and £100 prize money, adding to their recent EBF Challenge Bowl success.

The first week of the Bowls England National Championships at Royal Leamington Spa started with Royal Mail Cart interest in the men’s two-bowl singles in the shape of Kevin Ekins.

In the first round he beat Northumberland’s Andy Johnson Junior by 18 shots to eight.

The second round paired Ekins with 100-cap former outdoor international John Rednall (Suffolk).

Ekins rose to the challenge to win 17-12 but then faced another former international in the shape of Hampshire’s Perry Martin.

In a tight match, Ekins run ended by just one shot in the final end, going down 14-13.

Mail Cart club member Aidan Brickles (representing Burton House) qualified in the boys u17 singles and won two matches against Liam Roberts (Nottinghamshire) 21-9 and George Tague (Lancashire) again 21-9 to proceed to the semi finals .

There he met defending champion and former Spalding IBC bowler Ollie Jeapes (Huntingdonshire), where his excellent competition ended with a 21-16 defeat against the defending champion.

In the Thursday Night League, Mail cart’s A team won the 12s League for another year after a 6-0 success against Moulton Harrox at home, 5-1 against Mail Cart B and 5-1 at Castle.

The Tuesday Night Triples A team won 6-4 at Long Sutton and the Monday Night B team collected their first points of the season in their final match with a 4-4 draw at Gosberton.
