Honour for long-serving duo

Two volunteers who have clocked a combined 80 years with Spalding Amateur Swimming Club have been thanked for their service.

The club made presentations to Eileen Robson and Stephanie Jones, who are stepping down from the roles they have carried out for decades. A club spokesman said: “They have taught hundreds of children to swim.

“From all the children, their parents and teachers, we thank Eileen and Stephanie for all their help and commitment over the years and wish them all the very best.”

The club, which has been running in the town since 1934, is always on the look out for more volunteers to help run it.

“Many of our teachers and helpers are former pupils and also parents who have become involved for which we are extremely grateful,” the spokesman said.

The club meets on Tuesday at the Castle Sports Complex Swimming Pool, 6-10pm, with adult swimming after 8pm.

It also has a flourishing water polo team.
