Golfers tee off for charity success

Eighty players took part in the annual Bob Johns Charity Day at Tydd St Giles Golf Club.

Family member John Leake sponsored the event and £938 was raised for Cancer Research UK.

The winning team with 133 points was Mike Barton, Barrie Mutimer, Colin Page and Baz Smith, three points ahead of Dave Worrall, Dave Punshon, Petra Meir and Steve Skoulding. 

Third, with 125 points, were Terry Ribbens, Tim Martin, Wayne Davies and Steve Horton.

Event organiser Mick Vassall thanked the management for closing the course to enable a shotgun start to the fourball stableford team game.

He also thanked Karen, Maddie, Cathy, and Jordan for keeping the field watered and fed, as well as raffle man Dave Punshon raffle man, Joe Connolly on the registration desk, and Tydd Ladies and guests for making the special day a huge success.

Sewell Salver (best gross) 1 Ryan Rout 89, 81.
Ladies Club Champion: 1 Sylvia Illsley 67, 68; 2 Tania Thompson-Cole 69, 68; 3 Petra Meir 64, 75.
Ladies scratch champion: 1 Lorraine Gallie (gross) 170 over two rounds.

* Sutton Bridge seniors travelled under the guidance of vice-captain Alan Callaby to Heacham Manor and went down 4-2.
The winning pairs were Steve Adams and Mark Neil, and Andy Hyde and Rick Morley.

Tydd St Giles Ladies scratch champion Lorraine Gallie, captain Sue Racey and club champion Sylvia Illsley.
