Following a successful preliminary round victory away from home, Spalding’s Royal Mail Cart BC National Open Bowls England Club Two Fours team were at Stamford’s Blackstones BC in the first round.
Mail Cart raced out of the blocks and after five ends led 20-8, improving it to 30-17 after 10. At 15 ends, the match was out of reach for the hosts at 42-19. The game was won soon after with Mail Cart progressing to the area quarter-finals with a 48-22 victory.
They will now take on South Ferriby Vikings on Sunday, June 14.

The annual Lawrence Baxter Three-Bowl Open Triples Tournament was held in sweltering and sometimes uncomfortable conditions at the Royal Mail Cart, with 16 teams of 48 people playing to EBA rules.
Martin Simpson, John Allen and Ian Macfarlane from the home club emerged victorious and collected a £75 first prize and the trophy. Second were Waylon Clarke, Lee Chamberlain and Gemma Hanks who won £60, with third place going to Liam Stanley, Carly Morris and Andrew Sculthorpe, from Moulton Harrox, who shared £45.
In the league, Royal Mail Cart A’s search for a win in Division Two is over thanks to a 50-33 success against Carter’s Park B, with nine points gained.
The team won on two rinks and drew on the other with the top winning rink skipped by Rob Lacey, with Graham Brickles and Aarron Bates who won 22-11. Elaine Mycock, Frank Lawson and Ian Brickles won 16-10, while John Breed, Graham Astley and Alan Shakespeare drew 12-12.
The B were at home to Whaplode Drove and were 52 shots to 40 winners, with eight points gained after winning on two rinks. The top rink was skipped by Martin Simpson, with Sally Humphries and Nigel Brown who won 23-11.
Mel Mashford, Graham Jackson and Mick Dolton won 18-13 but Sue Jackson, Ben Sharp and Paul Turner were beaten 16-11.
The Thursday Night League B team lost 96-47, 6-0, at Whaplode Drove.

The Friday Afternoon League fixture was hosted by Mail Cart, with all three fixtures being played there for a second week running.
The A team rink of Colin Wilson, George Richardson and Paul Turner beat Carter’s Park A 30-8, with the B team’s Graham Astley, Alan Shakespeare and Joe Mellon seeing off Sutton Bridge 24-11.
The Royal Mail Cart Friday Night League team suffered their first defeat, going down 54-51 at home to Crowland Crows.
The winning rink was skipped by Rob Lacey, with Malcolm Robinson and Graham Brickles who won 17-12. Alan Shakespeare, Judith Lacey and Ian Brickles lost 20-17, with Joy Hardacre, John Breed and Joe Mellon beaten 22-17.
Bowls Lincolnshire men’s Midland Counties team won their first Francis Burton Trophy match of the season 107-103 against Warwickshire at Royal Leamington Spa. The team included Royal Mail Cart players John Allen, Phil Cooke, Dan Mills and Martin Simpson.
The Lincolnshire ladies county Walker Cup team did not qualify for the final stages following the regional qualifiers at Wellingborough. The team included Royal Mail Cart regulars Ruby Philpott and Chelsea Spencer and started well with a 6-2 win against Leicestershire but lost on all eight points against Northamptonshire.
* In the Sutton Bridge Banks Rose Bowl League, Newton maintained their winning record with a 5-1 success against Black Cats, prevailing 54-44.
They have a match in hand on leaders March Town, who were 4-2 victors (82-52) against Gorefield.
The week’s other match saw Emneth beat Parson Drove triumph 5½-½ (77-47).
