Lithuanian school launches

A new, weekly school has been opened up at a Spalding church to teach children Lithuania.

Jolanta Kensminiene, a teacher from Peterborough, has launched the initiative at St Norbert’s Catholic Church after noticing the number of people from the district heading elsewhere for lessons.

The sessions will take place every Wednesday from 4.30pm to 7pm and are for four to 12-year-olds.

“The children are coming every Wednesday to learn about reading and writing the language,” Jolanta said. “They’re coming from a number of different backgrounds.

“They all seem to be happy and enjoying the sessions so far and keep coming back which is a good sign.”

Anybody interested can find the school’s page on Facebook.
