Lions’ pride for young leaders

Four young people in South Holland have been recognised for their commitment to the community.

Andrew Ablett of 1st Spalding Scouts, Ellen White of Spalding Amateur Swimming Club, Ella Griggs of 3rd Spalding Brownies and Florence Sweeting of Pinchbeck Guides and Brownies have all been presented Lions International Young Leaders Service Awards.
The Spalding branch of the worldwide organisation has been visiting the groups to speak to the leaders and see what they do.
“These young people give their time freely on a regular basis to help others in their local community,” said vice chair of the branch Julie Grant.

Andrew Ablett is a young leader with 1st Spalding Scout Group helping others to progress within the movement.
He’s completed over 100 hours of service to the community. Lions John Steel, Eileen Robson and Frances Paget went along to present Andrew with his award.
Ella Griggs is a young leader with 3rd Spalding Brownies as well as being a Guide herself.
She gives her time to working on meeting activities to create the resources for the Brownies to use as well as helping then during meetings.
Lions John Steel, Elaine Mothers, Richard Briers and Eileen Robson went along to present Ella with her award.
Ellen White has been helping on poolside with Spalding Amateur Swimming Club and gained her level one teachers qualifications. Ellen has also trained and completed assessments to enable her to be a marshall for motorsport rallying allowing her to volunteer to ensure the safety of both competitors and spectators. Lions Eileen Robson, John Steel and Elaine Mothers presented Ellen with her award.
Florence Sweeting is a young leader with Pinchbeck Guide unit and Pinchbeck Brownies. Before starting her college course in Childcare she also received young leader recognition with Pinchbeck Rainbows. Lions president Stuart East, Eileen Robson, John Steel and Elaine Mothers went along to present Florence with her award.
