Lightning win in tricky Top Club match

On Sunday, Spalding Lightning came through a tricky away fixture in the mixed Top Club at Stamford.

With wins in the ladies’ single’s, pairs and triples, Spalding Lightning won 10-6 to book their place in the next round where they will play Lincoln or Louth at home on Sunday, December 8.
Rink scores: Ladies’ single’s – Chelsea Spencer won 21-7, Men’s single’s – Stephen Harris lost 16-21, Pairs – Annie Dunham and Dominic McVittie won 18-14, Triples – Ruby Hill, Martin Spencer and Mathew Orrey won 18-8, Fours – Jean Patterson, Louise Harris, Graham Smith and Jordan Philpott lost 14-17.
qOn Saturday, Spalding Indoor Bowls Club hosted Boston A in the men’s county league.
Although there were three narrow rink wins for the away team, Spalding were victorious on one rink which decided the aggregate as Nathan Puttrell, Max Butters, David Nunney and Dominic McVittie won 29-7.
Spalding won overall by twelve shots (70-58) and 8-6 on match points.
With only three games played so far this season, Spalding are currently two points behind Stamford A.

qOn Saturday, Spalding Lightning progressed to the next round of the under 30s double triples with a 38-25 win against Lincoln.
All six youngsters played their part, but the main damage was done at home by the rink skipped by Stephen Harris, with Dan Mills and Ruby Hill who won 23-10.
Next up are Barwell on Sunday, November 24.

qOn Thursday, Spalding Indoor Bowls Club hosted Grantham in the men’s over 60s county league.
The match was keenly contested which resulted in a draw 64-64 (7-7).
Spalding’s top winning rink was skipped by David Nunney, with Mick Dolton, Robin Roffe and Keith Jackson who won 22-10.

qOn Tuesday, November 5, Spalding Lightning progressed to the second round of the men’s over 60s double rink with an impressive win against Grantham who went deep in the competition last season.
It was very nip and tuck throughout, but Spalding Lightning held their nerve to win by four shots (34-30).
Although the home rink certainly played their part, the main damage was done by the away rink skipped by Martin Simpson, with Tony Westland, Ian Stafford and Gavin Staite who won 20-10.
Next up are Sleaford A on Tuesday, November 26.
