Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s ‘Lightning’ team have progressed to the last 16 of the Egham Trophy with a 16-shot (82-66) win against Barwell.
Lightning started the stronger of the two teams as they went 23-16 up by five ends and 45-33 at ten ends.
The lead was extended to 64-42 at 15 ends and whilst Barwell fought back slightly to 70-55 at 18 ends, Lightning eventually booked their place in the last 16, where they will play Lincoln.
Winning on three of the four rinks, the top winning rink was skipped by Mark Dawes, with Stephen Harris, Karen Martin and Chelsea Spencer who won 23-7.
Spalding Lightning’s talented under-30s double triples team had a comfortable 41-25 win against Melton.
Although Lightning won on both rinks, the main damage was done by the away rink skipped by Dominic McVittie, with Ollie Jeapes and Chelsea Spencer who had a good 21-9 rink win.
Spalding Indoor Bowls Club lost a close encounter in the men’s county league at Sleaford by five shots (78-83).
Spalding won on two rinks so secured four of the available match points. Top winning rink was skipped by Brian Martin, with Jack Wells, Oliver Stanley and James Teesdale who won 30-21.
Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s ladies travelled to Grantham in their first away Trudy Bates fixture of the season.
Spalding played well with some fresh faces to win on two out of the four rinks and won by 20 shots on aggregate.
Top winning rink was skipped by Maggie Wheatley with Jean Patterson, Petrine Ault and Dee Brinkman who had a 33-8 rink win.
Spalding Indoor Bowls Club found it tough going away at Stamford in the over 60s men’s county league as they lost 96-55 and 13-1 on points. Spalding did manage one drawing rink which was skipped by David Nunney, with Tony Westland, Mick Dolton and Keith Jackson.
