LETTERS – Time for common sense

In the past two weeks, there have been letters complaining about “far right” protesters being sent to jail. Both insinuate that it is somehow taking away the right of protest to throw people into jail who misbehave and repeat the false narrative being pushed by Farage and Reform of a two-tier justice system.
It isn’t “far right” to have concerns about immigration. I have concerns about the record levels of immigration as a result of Brexit, what may be considered to be a lack of integration in parts of our country by immigrants and a complete failure in recent years to stop illegal migration. We need a proactive plan to address what issues we might face, instead of trying to whip up hate on behalf of people who don’t care anything about you.
It is, however, “far right” to be a racist moron who goes on social media and incites people to commit violence.
It is “far right” to write on social media that hotels housing asylum seekers – including women and children – should be set on fire with people inside.
It is “far right” to go on the rampage setting fire to buses, rubbish bins and anything you come across.
Just Stop Oil protesters were rightly thrown into jail for acts of civil disobedience. Farage and his supporters were totally in favour of those sentences. So don’t give me this “two tier” justice system nonsense.
Anyone committing hate crimes against others should be thrown in jail. Can’t we just go back to the days where if you had nothing nice to say, you just kept your mouth shut?
It’s time for a bit of common sense. The people of Spalding and South Holland recently rejected the politics of Farage at the General Election.
If people are going to push this ideology in the local newspaper, at least have the guts to attach your name to it so we can know not to vote for you in the upcoming county elections.
