We are writing following the announcement by East Midlands Railway that they will not now be removing staff from Spalding Station following so much public opposition to the plans.
As our excellent MP Sir John Hayes said: “This is great news for Spalding, and for rail passengers who shouldn’t have to rely on ticket machines because personal service really matters.”
The change in heart from East Midlands Railway, announced on October 31, follows two petitions signed by thousands of local people who opposed the plans. Remarkably, South Holland and the Deepings constituency had the sixth highest number of signatories from anywhere in the UK.
We write to thank Sir John for leading this successful campaign. Sir John had multiple meetings with the managing director of East Midland Railways, and with the Transport Secretary and the Rail Minister about this matter. He has shown yet again that he stands by and for local people.
We offer too our heartfelt thanks to all those members of the public who supported us. We are delighted that common sense prevailed.
