LETTERS – Thanks for community spirit

The Parish Council wish to convey their sincere thanks to everyone who attended the Christmas Activities Event in the Long Sutton Market Place on December 9.

It was an extremely enjoyable day and it was great to see everyone having a such a good time.

The support from local businesses was very much appreciated and the council thanks those businesses who opened on the day to add to the atmosphere of the event and also the Royal British Legion and the Market House for holding additional events to compliment the main event and the stallholders for braving the cold weather.

Special thanks go to Parkway, Abi’z, Possessions, The Market House and Fenland Estates for once again allowing the Parish Council to access their electricity supply free of charge for the Christmas lights – it is very much appreciated.

The highlight of the event was, of course Santa’s arrival due to the efforts of Darren Goult, Station Master of the Long Sutton Fire Station and his team who delivered Santa by fire engine, much to the delight of the children who also had the chance to sit in the engine.

Thank you also to the small group of volunteers who man the event from 5am until the end, the Market House Photo Club and their Minion, Debbie Appleton Funfairs for providing the fair and finally, of course, Santa and his helpers for entertaining the 430-plus children who visited him the Grotto within St Mary’s Church.

There are sadly not many towns who now hold such an event so it is extremely pleasing to be supported by the community so wholeheartedly.

Coun Dale Frith (Chairman)
On behalf of Long Sutton Parish Council
