Dim campaign sparks cyclists

A councillor and charity worker says his campaign urging cyclists ‘Don’t Be Dim’ has been a bright spark.

Mark Le Sage who oversees The Rightside Trust and Ella’s Project launched the bid to get more cyclists wearing lights earlier this year.

He says he’d now like to make it an annual campaign after sales of cycle lights at the Spalding branch of Halfords, were up 60 per cent after it offered a 15 per cent discount during the campaign.

It was an offer extended to its Grantham and Lincoln stores.

“I’m very grateful for the support we have received from Halfords”, said district councillor Mark. “I’m especially grateful to deputy manager Leanne Boswell who has worked very hard behind the scenes.

“Our collaboration with The Lincolnshire Police, and Deputy Chief Constable Chris Davison and local Inspector Matt Dickinson for their backing, Pedals our local cycling Action group and of course the local press for publishing our story.”

“There is still work to do and we are hoping to make it an annual campaign aimed at getting cyclists ready for the darker nights by coinciding the campaign with the clocks going back in October.”
