The family of Dorothy Foster, who died in Pilgrim Hospital on May 6, would like to thank all the people who came to her for sewing at her home in Edinburgh Walk, Holbeach, over the past 27 years.
You were not her customers, you were her friends and your laughter rang through the house and brought her joy.
Dorothy came to Holbeach from South Africa where she ran a dressmaking school for all races and had her own programme on the radio and wrote a sewing column for the anti-apartheid newspaper where her husband, Cliff, was news editor.
After the tensions of those years, the peace of Holbeach – which she had never seen before – was something she treasured and she never wanted to be anywhere else.
She sewed with Themba, her golden retriever, by her side who for many years leapt up to greet you as you rang the bell.
They were extraordinarily happy years and her family are grateful for them and very grateful to you all.
She left us suddenly with no chance to say goodbye and our best wishes go to you all.
