Since when has it been ”legal’ for homeless people to set up camp in the Castle Sports Complex park behind the BMX mound?
On Saturday morning there was a man lying sprawled out, face down for hours behind the mound fast asleep, he could’ve been dead for all we knew!
Then on Sunday at 5am three men, drunk and shouting, plus the usual drug taking.
Then early on Monday morning there were three canopies/tents all in the same area, obviously being used overnight. I told them they cannot camp in a public park as it’s illegal. All to no avail.
I informed the council early that morning and as no response was received I went to the police. Officers visited this area, spoke to one man and left! This ‘camping’ has continued every night since!
This is a taxpayer-funded facility. It should be safe, clean and drug-free to be used by families. But sadly neglected by the above, has now left it to be used freely by these people, with urinating and defecating amongst some of the ongoing activities whilst being there. So it’s not fit for purpose to be used by the public.
To make matters worse it has only a wrought iron fence between them and the Garth special needs school, during which these activities continue throughout the day. Not exactly conducive for children.
Something has to be done urgently before even more gather there.
