LETTERS – Marking the 80th anniversary

For approximately 35 years my friends and I have raised many thousands of pounds so our veterans could return to Normandy.
On June 6, 2023, I stood at those young boys’ graves and I knew my journey to Normandy was nearly over, so I thought I would do something special for the 80th anniversary.
I shall take half a million biodegradable poppies to the beaches to put three miles out to sea, along with 4,000 roses to give to people who are wearing their family medals.
If any veteran in our county was involved in the Second World War they can get a free medal for the 80th anniversary and if anyone else would like to purchase one they are for sale at the Anglia Motel for £19.99.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Morrisons supermarket for letting my veterans raise £500,000 in their stores, and Tesco for their help too in raising money.
I would like to thank Peter and Wendy Norris for all their support for helping me to raise money this year. They have raised £18,000 for the new memorial. Also £4,000 was raised by David Felstead and Audrey Hurd at the cafe for the Air Ambulance.
Thank you for all your support and if anyone would like to support the Normandy trip they can send donations to Anglia Heroes and Veterans Fund or drop it in to the cafe. Anything is appreciated as the trip is costing £11,000, for the ferries, roses, diesel and getting the DUKW repaired ready for Normandy.
