LETTERS – Make Ernie’s last trip special

As you may or may not be aware every year for the last 31 years I have raised money for WW2 soldiers to take them back to the Normandy graveyards to visit fallen comrades and lay wreaths.

These veterans have sadly slowly passed away and last week I lost my last original veteran Ernie Covill at the age of 97.

I have a collection of military vehicles and friends with the same and on Ernie’s last wishes I agreed to take his coffin from his home town of Boston to Surfleet crematorium on one of the few remaining original WW2 amphibious landing craft that I own.

Along with a cortege of military vehicles we will leave the Pincushion public house at 8.45am on September 2 and make our way to Surfleet Crematorium for 10am.

Ernie was in Normandy and was involved as a driver taking food for the American troops in Bastogne.

We would like as many military vehicles to join us to take Ernie on his last ride.

I can be contacted on 07530 006867.
